


Matthew Lazenby has been the Organist and Choir Trainer for St Martin’s Church, Leeds since 2013, having previously been Organist for All Saints’ Church, Thorp Arch, near Wetherby.
He is also Choir Trainer and one of the organists for All Saints’ Church, Newton- on-Ouse, near York and Assistant Organist to All Saints’ Pavement, York.
In addition, Matthew is supply organist to various churches in the Yorkshire area, including St James’, Wetherby and St Aidan’s, Leeds.
Matthew Lazenby's first appointment as church organist was at the Church of the Immaculate Conception at Scarthingwell, near Tadcaster, Yorkshire, at the age of 14. Matthew was initially introduced to organ playing by his then piano teacher and has since received organ tuition from teachers including Geoffrey Pearce and David Houlder.
As a result of his experience as a church organist, Matthew Lazenby has built up an extensive repertoire of organ music suitable for all church occasions. As well as hymns and service settings, he is familiar with most of the liturgies associated with weddings, funerals and baptisms. An integral part of Matthew's role is to help families select suitable organ music for these intimate family occasions.
Matthew Lazenby is experienced in working with soloists and ensembles, including church choirs, and is happy to arrange rehearsals where appropriate.
Matthew Lazenby's lifelong background as both organist and pianist has given him excellent sightreading skills. This ability, together with his familiarity with all types and sizes of church organ, enable him to fulfil engagements in the Leeds and York areas at short notice if required.
